AMC is also developing a film-wrapping reality block of interstitials
called "Date Night." Each week a movie-loving viewer hosts the new Mon night
movie block (which kicks off Sept 27 with "When Harry Met Sally") and plays
matchmaker to eligible, opinionated film buffs of the opposite sex during
commercial breaks. By the time the credits roll, the host has decided who gets
to go on a real-life movie date. The concept springs from AMC's "regular
everyday movie people" upfront campaign earlier this year, featuring
prototypical AMC viewers' personal ads seeking their dream movie-loving
companion. AMC has another reality-based original series (on the heels of "Into
Character," which wraps Sept 1) in the wings: "FilmFakers," a "Joe Schmo"-esque
gotcha! in which aspiring actors think they're taping a straight-to-DVD movie
with the likes of Erik Estrada, Rachel Hunter or Justin Guarini, The B-grade
stars are real, but the movie isn't; instead, the wannabe thespians are on
national TV. (Smile!) The 6-ep series debuts Oct 27 at 10pm.
